THE PRIMARY GOAL OF RUNNING READERS IS FOSTERING A LOVE OF LEARNING, OF INTERPRETING THE WORLD, AND TURNING THAT LOVE INTO REAL-WORLD SUCCESS & Happiness.
WE HELP YOU FIND YOUR STORY.
ACTION
There once was a little girl. As she sat on the edge of her rainbow, watching the frogs skip over her pond, she grew restless. She thought: "Wouldn't it be nice if I could just take a break for one second."
RUNNING, EXERCISE & PLAY
Studies show that running boosts mood, IQ, reading comprehension, relaxes, and re-energizes.
I always found it hard to concentrate. At least, as much as I knew I had to. As much as I wanted to, actually. Because I knew all that smart stuff was inside me. It was all bottled up. Sometimes I thought I would just burst. Sometimes doing my work just couldn't get any worse.
HERE IS WHAT WE DO:
1. Get ready. Dynamic stretching, skipping, all-around loosening. We stay around school, home, or head to a local park, depending on your need.
2. Run. It may be that you only want to run to take a break. Or maybe you already love running, or you'll come to love it, and you'll want to run more. We'll work with your other sports or extracurricular activities to develop a training plan that gets you toward what you want to achieve—whether it's being a fitter football player, a faster runner, or simply being able to concentrate better on your learning.
3. Cool off. Dynamic to gentle stretching, easing back into your reading.
MUSIC
Studies show that music boosts mood, exercises the left and right brain, and creates a canvas for your imagination.
Mozart was blind. Stevie Wonder was blind. I'm not. I don't. I don't understand how they understand. I don't know how they got so good. I want to be famous. I want to understand their music. I want to understand my music. I want to have my own music.
HERE IS WHAT WE DO:
1. Find your instrument. Brass, keys, strings, rhythm or voice. My instrument is piano. My voice, if I'm feeling brave! :) If you already have an instrument, I'll teach you the universal concepts of music theory. We'll compare and contrast, jam out, and even compose your own song.
2. If you don't already have an instrument, or want to learn a new one, I'll teach you voice and piano. Piano is very similar to reading comprehension, in that it translates to all other skills and instruments. Whether you're starting completely from scratch, or using our program as a supplement to pre-existing lessons, get ready for the most exciting journey of your life. There are seven non-repeating notes in every major scale, just as there are seven colors in the rainbow. And yet, every day, new songs are being created. We'll use the time-honored techniques of the classical, jazz, and pop masters, emphasizing proficiency and play, and you, yes, YOU, will create your own music.
NATURE: Inner & Outer Growth
Studies show that green is good.
When I take walks in the park I forget it all. I think I remember though what I need to remember. Like there was this one lizard. I learned that he lost his tail. It made me sad that I lost my friend. It made me glad that everyone can grow back a tale.
HERE IS WHAT WE DO:
1. Go places.
2. Stay very, very close.
This world is amazing. You'd be surprised at what you can find within eyesight on the sidewalk or window-sill, in your own backyard, or at a local park. Developing an appreciation for the natural world translates not only into greater awareness, but into real-life examples of what you're reading. If you read about snow, or green ash, or blue fescue, or painted buntings, or buttercups, but you haven't seen them, how can you know what they're really like? Can you smell it, can you taste it, can you feel, can you hear it? Can you touch it? The world feeds your imagination with every gulp of air. Grab a dandelion and blow, and don't let go.
